Dr. Gallo and members of the Search Committee,

I believe my strong background as an educator, combined with being a certified athletic trainer, makes me an obvious candidate for the full-time faculty tenure track position at Salem State University. I have been working as a certified athletic trainer for the past 24 years and have been teaching as an adjunct lecturer at Salem State University for 9 years. By blending teaching and clinical skills, I have a strong expertise in many different areas including ACL injury prevention programs and movement screening. My experience includes working with high school, college, and performing arts, professional and Olympic athletes.

My degrees include a teaching and athletic training background creating skill set specific to the needs of this faculty position. My Bachelor of Science degree from Bridgewater State University and Master of Science degree from AT Still University are in education and athletic training. I was encouraged by Dr. Joseph Gallo to pursue my doctoral degree at Rocky Mountain University in order to teach full-time. My doctoral coursework will be completed by December 2014 and my AbD completed in March/April of 2015. I am scheduled to begin data collection the summer of 2015, researching injury surveillance statistics in women’s professional football teams. My research interests include Injury Surveillance Statistics in Women’s Professional Football, Functional Movement Screen (FMS) norms for Marathon runners and my continued work on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) prevention programs.

During my work over the last 2+ decades, I’ve developed professional relationships with various groups that utilize athletic trainers in different settings. These include: Colonial Classic Synchronized Skating Championships, Bay State Games, Masters Rowing Clinics and Blue Man Group. These unique settings allow me to coordinate athletic training students (ATS) allowing them to observe athletic trainers working outside of standard clinical settings. These networks promote both our profession in multiple underserved/non-traditional populations. Because of my relationships and involvement in the athletic training community I would offer outstanding interpersonal relationships and networking as a clinical coordinator.

I have been waiting for this position at Salem State University to become available and am ready to dedicate my time and energy to this full-time position. If you have any questions or if I can be of further assistance please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or my cell phone 781-910-9466.

Sincerely,

Patricia M Cordeiro MS, ATC, CSCS
