    In many situations when we talk aboutfuture plans we can use either the presentcontinuous or the 'going to' future.However, when we use the presentcontinuous, there is more of a suggestionthat an arrangement has already beenmade.

    Scheduled Events in the Near Future Speakers occasionally use Simple Present to

    talk about scheduled events in the nearfuture. This is most commonly done whentalking about public transportation, but itcan be used with other scheduled events aswell.

    Examples: The train leavestonight at 6 PM. The bus does not arrive at 11 AM,

    The simple present is used to make

    statements about events at a time laterthan now, when the statements are basedon present facts, and when these factsare something fixed like a time-table,schedule, calendar.
