Business activity

− Founder and Scientific Director of the AMT COATINGS Company (2003 – 2010), which is a technological based SME company operating on the development/production of technical coatings and advanced surface treatments for moulds industry and industrial pipes for the petroleum industry. The company has implemented dozens of projects (about 10 million Euros) for different companies such as: GALP Energia, PETROTEC SA, SIMOLDES SA, IBERO-MOLDES SA, BROWNING SA, OGMA-Portuguese Aeronautic Industry, among others.

− Project Manager at JOIC CONSTRUCTION SA Company, which is a technology construction-based company (2007 – 2011). The company main’s activity is targeted in civil construction and public works. In France, the company executed some construction contracts with a turnover exceeding 15 million Euros. They included the following building works: Construction d'un ehpad (91 Lits + 4 places de Jour), held in Monchy ST Eloi, France; Construction d'un ehpad (61 Lits), held in Javrezac, France; Construction of 6 industrial buildings (metal construction), held in Besançon, France.

− Founder of INOVIBER SA Company: a technology-based company that deals with the development and implementation of projects in the field of energy efficiency for domestic and industrial buildings (2009 – 2011);

− European Representative for technological and strategic investments of the Chinese Guizhou Province (since May 2010);

− Advisor/Consultant for the Petroleum Vice-Minister of Angola concerning innovation projects in the field of Solar Energy - Photovoltaic systems (February 2009 – October 2010);

Short  Biography  Joaquim  Carneiro  holds  a  Ph.D.  in  mechanical  engineering  from  Faculty  of  Engineering,  University  of  Porto  (FEUP)   Portugal,   a   PAPCC   (M.S.)   and   a   degree   in   physics-­‐chemistry   from   University   of  Minho   (UMinho),  Portugal.   Carneiro   served   as   the   Group   Leader   of   Functional   Coatings   Group   in   the   Physics   Centre   at  UMinho  were   develops   his   research   activity   in   the   field   of   surface   engineering,   nanostrutured  materials,  nanotechnology,  functional  coatings,  photocatalytic  materials,  anodizing  processes  and  novel  construction  materials.  In  January  2015,  Carneiro  was  nominated  Head  of  the  Department  for  Research  Policy  and  Post-­‐graduation  at  Polytechnic  Superior   Institute  of  Technology  and  Sciences/Academy  of  Angola  National  Fuel  Society   –   (ISPTEC  /  SONANGOL),   Angola.   Since  May   2013,   he   is   also  Associate   Professor   (visitor/honorary  position)  at  the  Jiangsu  University  of  Science  and  Technology,  China.  Carneiro  has  authored  more  than  100  articles  (of  which  50  published  in  scientific  journals  with  peer  review  and   impact   factor),  1  book   (in  Portuguese),  5  book  chapters,  and  1  patent.  He   is  member  of   the  editorial  board   of   “International   Journal   of   Photoenergy”,   “Coatings”   and   “Current   Smart  Materials”   and  was   the  Academic-­‐editor  of  the  Special  Issue  "Recent  Aspects  of  Thin  Films  Deposited  by  Magnetron  Sputtering  and  Emerging  Applications".  Carneiro  participated  and  leaded  some  Portuguese  and  European  R&D  projects  (FCT,  ADI,  FP6,  FP7,  QREN)  and  also  co-­‐organised  scientific  and  technical  committees  of  national  and  international  conferences  related  to   functional   coatings,   nanotechnology   and   nanomaterial’s   applications.   Concerning   SME   Innovation  promotion,  Carneiro  was   the  scientific  mentor  of  one  high-­‐tech  based  spin-­‐off  proposal  and   founder  of  2  technological   SME’s.   Carneiro   holds   1   international   award   (Janus   Award   from   the   Institute   of   Advanced  Studies/IEA-­‐USP,  Brazil)  and  1  national  innovation  award  (Magconcept  Award  from  IAPMEI).
