REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL OZONE DAY
Timor-Leste celebrated the International Ozone Day and the 30th Anniversary of Montreal
Protocol on 14-15 September 2017.
There were several activities that have been done for the celebration of International Ozone Day
2017, such as:
Distribution of information through SMS package TT (Timor-Telecom) service to 5000
clients in Dili on the celebration of ozone day and the 30th anniversary of Montreal
Protocol and importance of protecting ozone layer. Two different messages were sent
out to 5000 clients consecutively on Thursday and Friday (14 – 15). This was used as
public awareness and to invite public to participate in the exposition.
On 14th of September was the Opening of Exposition to public in center court of Timor
Plaza. The objective of the exposition was to distribute information to public and to raise
awareness on the importance of ozone layer and how to protect the ozone layer,
introduction to Ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and the ODS alternatives. There were
Expo stands including Importer ODS, Servicing Workshop, Vocational Training School
(CNFP) and Custom Department. It was started at 9.30 am until 4.30 pm.

On 15th of September were the Celebration of International Ozone Day and the 30th
Anniversary of the Montreal Protocol. While the exposition was open for public, there
was a ceremony for Ozone Day. First, a message by the General Director of Environment,
on the International of Ozone Day and the anniversary of the Montreal Protocol.
Followed by an Interactive Talk session by the General Director of Environment,
National Directorate of Climate Change and the Representative Customs Department
(General Directorate of Customs). After the Interactive Talk, there was also quiz open for
public especially for those who pass by the stands and the students who came by. Those
who know the answer to the question on Quiz session got gifts that consisted of package
of stationery and USB drive. Poster and brochures were distributed to people surround
the place. The event was end with symbolically hand-over the identifier machine to the
custom officers especially to the ports and borders.
