MAY 966Dear fr iend s in Chris t , . .^ -I thought the Summer months were busy ones but these pas t two monthshave been j u s t as much so , March and Apri l have gone by po f a s t ,I have been kept going quite s teadi ly with helping plan radio programs,p rac t i c i ng musica l numbers fo r rad io , working with th e youth, t eacher -t ra ining work and wecekly church meetings. But, pra ise the Lord, t ha ti s th e reason I*m he re , and I^m thankfu l I have received s t r eng th ,Sp i r i t ua l and physical to do th i s work. At t imes it has been a l i t t l erough but th e Lord has been my s t r eng th j u s t l i ke He promised He would.A g rea t dea l of my t irae these pas t two months has been spent inprac t ic ing our ladies t r io and -hel pi ng o rgan ize music fo r the radioprograms. We p ra ctic e qu ar te t, t r io and radio choir three t imes aweek and then I a lso sin^; in th e church cho i r which prac t i ces eachFriday night . l*m t ry ing to help the g i r l s in the Alto sec t ion .But, I have to admit tha t , though the radio work i s important andI am helping when and where I can, my heart i s in the youth workand t ra ining teachers for these children. In my l a s t newsletter Imentioned being anxious to get a youth group s ta r ted here in Osorno. That wish i s now a rea l i ty and I 'd love to t e l l you about it.I asked one of the young couples in the church (v;ho, I had hoped couldhelp serve as sponsors, but cannot) to help me prepare a party andinvi ted a l l the young people in the church and t he i r fr iends. Thisserved s o r t of as a "k ick -o f f " . Twelve yourg people came and we hada wonde rf ul time ge t t ing acquainted and I th en exp la in ed my plansand ideas fo r thorn and they vjere t h r i l l ed . We then se t a day whenwe could meet each week. That was March 2S and on Saturday, Apr i l2,' we had our f i r s t meeting. There were 11 in attendance. We havemet for five weeks now, have elected off ice rs , are well in to thecourse "Knowing your Bible" and th is past Saturday we had 17 inat tendance. The Lord i s bless inr . them (and me) and I am t h r i l l edwith the oppor tunit y. Please pray for these youth and for me as Iteach and guide them. I am t raining one of the young men in the congregation to eventua lly take over the leadership of this group so Ican s t a r t other groups in o^her churches. Now, the Intermediate agechi ldren are anxious for a youth group of the i r own, so. Lord wil l ing,in a few more weeks, I vdl l s t a r t a special meeting for them*Some of th e l ad ies of th e church are i n t e res t ed in having a spec i a lladies meeting with a time of study and prayer and a time to do socialwork. They asked me for help in star t ing i t and I have agreed to doth e teaching and help them get organized i f they would agree to haveone of them being t ra ined a t tfe same time to _t_ake-_-_o_vejr'_J.ati^_^.on,^-.=^"The" Sunday School here in Rahue (as in most of the churches) is invery sad shape. I have mentioned th is to you before to some extent .This i s not only due to ^organizat ion but also due to some recentproblems in the leadership of the church. Attendance has fallen wayoff in Sunday School. The Huntleys, Micks and I have a plan to or-fT.inize the Sunday School into classes and train teachers at the samet no r V/e have found teaching material and have presented the plant.. uhe elders of the church. Theyhave .accepted it and we wil l beginju.^t as soon as the material arr ives. I have no doubts whatsoeverthat, as soon as there are classes, and toacners with prepared, i, i .i'^r.esting lessons, tha t the attendance wil l multiply 10 times in nv?;:a j."w Tfoeks. The problem has not been lack of numbers to at tendof organization, pr eparation, and concern on the p? rtwi of th'^-'^aui ch l eader s . Please pray fo r t h i s e f f o r t .My teacher-training course for the other churches i s progressing

but surely# . I find i t di f f icul t to f:.nd time to s i t down and work.;'^--.'^on it as I should and as I want to . Lord vji l l ing, I wil l be presenting, th i s coursi in the churches in the Horth^^rn par t of Chi le , where BrocGale Smith and the harvey Beasloys are working, in. September of t h i syear , 1 do not have a schedule made out , as ye t , with dates fo r presen tin g the coarse in th j ether charches in Cnile, I w ill t ry to reachthe churchcs hure in the Southorn zone bofo q Joptember, wi l l be withthe churches in th e l io rt ii er n Zone in September and, l a t e r on, whic he ve rdates are bes t , wil l present the prof-ram in the . churches of thu Centralzone. In my workwith th e young people of Chilu l a^ii very concerned t ha t each one hash is own Bible, i^iol':s are not expensive here bu t , many t imes the peopleare too poor oven to buy a Bib].e, I -have ,made i t - a p rac tice in , thegroups I have started or reorsaniaed, af ter I have presented the' les- -sons on "Knowing your Bible", to precent them v;ith Bibles, e i ther as 'pr izes , or just bac-?LUse they don*t ixr;ve one. These Bibles, of course, are bought out of mission expenses but my mission fUnds are very lov;from what I understand. So, i f there is a Sunday School class or youthgroup thsat would l i ke to have a pro jec t which i s very needy, you could ,send specia l o ff er in gs to my' forwarding agent, for the purpose of buying Bibles fo r the youth, of Chile, Also, wh-on I s t a r t t ravel ing to ' thed i f fe ren t churches in Chile to px'^sent the teacher- t ra ining course I 'wi l l need- t rave l ing expenses . Perhaps you are wondering about tho taachGr-trainijig program in oth&r parts o-fthe country, I vd.ll be most of the month of Soptt^mber in thp North of Chilepresenting the program tb the consro^ations in Chuquicamata, Calama, and Anto-fagasta, I am looking forward to this tr ip as I liava not yet visited the churchesin the North, But, even before that trip in Septenbcr , plans have been madefor a^iother t r ip^ Many months c.go tho non-inatrumantta Churches of Christasked i f I would help them, when possible, with the toachor-training course#We have I for some time, been striving for fellowship with thorn. They, then, changed the date to the last wook in July andf i rs t week in August and I have accepted that date. The two congregations thereare sma^l but are very desperately in need of organization in thoir teachingprogram and, since the Lord has led me to Selp in this need, I fuel compelledto^go and help them since I can be free at that time, Please pray for thiseffor t . This t r ip v/ill also be a new experience for me, I will travel to Santiago and from ther^ will trave l over the Andes mountains by train with the missionary fa-nily fron Santiago, I'm sure- i t will be a v;onderful experience andI pray that many things may be accomplished for the cause of Christ and unityin Him, and that the Icnowlcdge of teaching His Wo&derful V/ord may be greatlyexpanded, Please pray,Yes t (denceed at the Micks house, which we had -decorated with a big U,3, flai^, severalsmall flags, and a ll kinds of rod, white, and blue decorations, V/e celebratedwith banana splits (something they nvjver heard of down here), Though we had tomake our own ice cream and a l l the syrups (including marshmallow) they turnedout delicious.
