BIOGRAPHY

He began his professional life in 1955. He graduated from School of

“Belas Artes” in Oporto. In 1988, he won the awards from Alvar Aalto

and Mies van der Rohe foundations. In 1992 he won the Pritzker Prize,

the Nobel of architecture. In Portugal he won Secil Architecture Prize

(1996); the International Medal of Arts (2002); and the Golden Lion,

award of the Venice Biennale, in 2012.

BIOGRAPHY

It is one of the most international and renowned Portuguese architects.

His work falls with in the context of the “School of Oporto”, alongside

names like Fernando Távora or Siza Vieira. Among many awards he has

won Pessoa Prize in 1998 and Secil Prize in 2004, for the design of Braga

Stadium. He received the Pritzker Prize, the "Nobel” of architecture , in

2011.

BIOGRAPHY

He graduated from the School of “Belas Artes” of Lisbon in 1966. He

won Valmor prize in 1980, for an Office Building in Lisbon. With Vittorio

Gregotti (an important Italian architect) he won the contest for Centro

Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, in 1989, project that was then completed

in 1992. He was responsible for the master plan of Expo‘ 98.

BIOGRAPHY

He graduated from the School of “Belas Artes” of Oporto in 1957. He

was a teacher at “Escola Superior de Belas-Artes do Porto”, since

1973 and at the “Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade do Porto-

FAUP”. In 1982, . In 1992 he won the prize "Europa Nostra”. With the

design of the new Town Hall of Matosinhos, he gets national and

international acclaim.

BIOGRAPHY

He is the author of some of the most qualified pieces of work of the

Portuguese Modern Architecture. He received many awards in Portugal

and outside his country. He was guest professor to give lectures about

his works in the universities of Barcelona, Lisbon, Rome, Milan, Verona,

City of Mexico, Viena, and Oporto.

BIOGRAPHY

The brothers Manuel and Francisco Aires Mateus founded their studio

in 1988. Both brothers teach at the Autonomous University of Lisbon

and at the Academia of Architettura di Mendrizio, in Switzerland.

They won the Mies van der Rohe Prize, the Contemporary Architecture

Prize in 2007 and the Ibero American Biennial of Architecture.

BIOGRAPHY

He graduated from the School of Belas Artes in Lisbon in 1968. When he

starts working on his own he is greatly influenced by the work of the

Portuguese architect Siza Vieira. He was awarded the National Prize of

Architecture in 1988 and the Great Medal of Gold from the Academy of

Architecture of Paris in 2000. In 2005 he was honoured the Honoris

Causa fromthe Universidade Técnica de Lisboa.

BIOGRAPHY

He has developed a vast academic activity since 1985 not only in the

College of Architecture of the University of Oporto(FAUP), but also in

Facoltá di Architettura do Politecnico di Milano. He is totally engaged in

the criticism and expanding of architecture and so he is a regular

presence in conferences, seminars and exihibitions. He has also been

the creator of several projects and his work is vast and recognized.

The MIMA HOUSE, designed by the Portuguese architects Mario Sousa Brandão and Marta has won the "Building of the Year" in the category "Houses", assigned by ArchDaily, one of the most respected international architectural sites.

These architects work in Switzerland with the famous Pritzker architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron.
