O Programa de Selos de Portugal de 2019 vai relevar um conjunto de personalidades de vários quadrantes da sociedade, nacionais e inter- nacionais, cuja importância para o desenvolvimento da ciência, da arte ou da música se revelou preponderante:- Em Portugal, a rainha D. Maria II, em cujo reinado se iniciaram as grandes obras públicas do século XIX; Calouste Gulbenkian, o fundador da Fundação do mesmo nome situada em Lisboa, que é uma referência pela atividade cultural e pelos seus museus; os grandes escritores Sophia de Mello Breyner, Fernando Namora, Joel Serrão e Jorge de Sena; o estadista Fontes Pereira de Melo, o Maestro Francisco de Lacerda e o almirante Gago Coutinho.- E no Mundo, Einstein, o físico do século XX, a propósito da observação em 1919 do eclipse solar que veio provar a Teoria da Relatividade; os notáveis músicos Clara Schumann e Offenbach e a grande bailarina Margot Fonteyn.

Do ponto de vista dos temas sociais e de sustentabilidade vamos ter uma emissão de selos dedicada aos 40 anos do serviço nacional de saúde e ao seu fundador António Arnault; celebraremos o centenário da OIT-ONU e ainda os 150 anos da abolição da escravatura em todos os territórios do reino de Portugal.

Temas internacionais fortes serão ainda o Ano Internacional da Tabela Periódica, os Trajes do Mediterrâneo (EuroMed) e o início da evocação dos 500 anos da 1.ª viagem de circum-navegação do globo terrestre.

A Fauna estará presente com a emissão EUROPA desta vez dedicada aos “Pássaros Nacionais” e com a 2.ª série da emissão que evoca as Raças Autóctones de Portugal.

Divulgação cultural e histórica será feita através dos selos dos Museus Centenários de Portugal, um conjunto de casas de saber que têm já 100 anos de existência e que ainda se encontram abertas ao público. E ainda pela continuação das séries dedicadas aos Arcebispos de Braga e ao Roteiro pré-histórico de Portugal.

De evocação histórica serão ainda as emissões sobre os 700 anos da Ordem de Cristo, fundamental na organização dos Descobrimentos, e sobre a Crónica de Portugal de 1419, envolvida ainda no mistério do seu autor.

Madeira e Açores continuam a aparecer no nosso plano com emis-sões dedicadas a aspetos importantes da sua história e património. Em 2019 continuaremos com a celebração dos 600 anos da chegada dos descobridores ao Funchal e em relação aos Açores teremos como tema o “Chá”, único local da Europa onde esta planta se cultiva.

Teremos ainda a finalização (última série) da muito apreciada série--base dedicada aos “doces tradicionais de Portugal”

Os 200 anos da 1.ª edição do livro sagrado em português e os 40 anos da criação da autoridade nacional de comunicações são também opções válidas para este ano filatélico.

O ano não termina sem Natal. E em 2019 os Correios de Portugal vão encerrar o seu plano filatélico com uma emissão alusiva ao Natal, que trará consigo uma surpresa inovadora para todos os senhores colecionadores.

The 2019 Stamps of Portugal Programme will feature a group of people from various walks of national and international life who have made important contributions to science, art or music:- From Portugal, Queen Maria II, during whose reign the great public works of the 19th century were initiated; Calouste Gulbenkian, whose eponymous foundation located in Lisbon is renowned for its cultural activity and museums; the great writers Sophia de Mello Breyner, Fernando Namora, Joel Serrão and Jorge de Sena; Statesman Fontes Pereira de Melo, Maestro Francisco de Lacerda and Admiral Gago Coutinho.- From the rest of the world, Einstein, the 20th century physicist whose Theory of Relativity was proven by the 1919 solar eclipse; noted musicians Clara Schumann and Jacques Offenbach and renowned dancer Margot Fonteyn.

In terms of social issues and sustainability, a stamp issue will be dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the National Health Service and to its founder António Arnault; we will celebrate the centenary of the UN-ILO and also the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery within all territories of the kingdom of Portugal.

Strong international themes will include the International Year of the Periodic Table, Traditional Costumes of the Mediterranean (EuroMed) and the beginning of the commemorations of the 500th anniversary of the 1st circumnavigation of the globe.

Fauna will be present with this year's EUROPE issue dedicated to 'National Birds' and with the 2nd issue of the series dedicated to Portuguese Autochthonous Breeds.

Preservation and promotion of history and culture will be assured through stamps dedicated to the Centennial Museums of Portugal, houses of knowledge that have remained open to the public for over 100 years. This will be further reinforced by the continuation of the series dedicated to the Archbishops of Braga and to the route of pre-historical sites of Portugal.

Also invoking history are issues relating to the 700th anniversary of the Order of Christ, fundamental to the organisation of the Discoveries, and to the Chronicle of Portugal of 1419, whose authorship remains shrouded in mystery.

Madeira and the Azores continue to feature in our plans, with issues dedicated to important aspects of their history and heritage. In 2019, we will continue with the celebration of the 600th anniversary of the arrival of the first explorers to Funchal, while we will use the theme of 'Tea' to examine the Azores, the only place in Europe where this plant is cultivated.

We will also launch the final issue of the highly popular series based on "traditional Portuguese sweets".

Issues relating to the 200th anniversary of the first edition of the Bible in Portuguese and the 40th anniversary of the founding of the National Communications Authority will also feature in this philatelic year.

No year is complete without Christmas and in 2019 Correios de Portugal will round off its philatelic offerings with an innovative Christmas-themed issue that is sure to surprise all collectors.
