And that explains the rest.” — Manoel de Barros >>> Constantly reviewing the impact that technology brings to the dialogue between art and life, we have a history of various artistic languages spreaded through our schedule, focusing on various low and hi-tech technics, between what was already new and what is new today. Looking in the rearview mirror is an excellent exercise of discovery and redemption of the past knowledge to better understand the future. Unpredictability/Gift _ “To live is to go among the living.” — João Cabral de Melo Neto >>> The concept of multiplicity in the arts focuses on a fertile disorder, shuffling our visible perceptions and expanded sensations. The idea is not to untie the knot, but stimulate the concerns that move us, whether in the prosaic everyday ground or in the experimentalism of contemporary arts. ¶ Rather than following trends spellbound by the moment, the focus is to invest in the innovative research of this still unclassifiable artistic field. In search of disruptions, we encourage an out of bounds flow, building a platform that reveals transverse motions. Permanence / Future _ “The future is now.” — Torquato Neto >>> Designing the future is pure fiction, part of a cybernetic revolution started in the last century which is still new, it’s still seductive, which is still accelerating, and that never stops. The big part of the festival is to build bridges that point to a constantly transforming breathtaking landscape. ¶ Today, reviewing the scene in Rio 10 years ago, we can proudly say that we have contributed to the development of new audiences, to the qualification of professionals related to art and advanced technologies, we encouraged the emergence of new festivals, and stimulated the opening of new cultural venues for experimental languages, to name a few of our legacy. ¶ The consistent sequence of our events created an emotional bond with the art scene, setting it in the national calendar as a reference, reverberating internationally in an intangible dimension. 2013 – Year 09 _ “Today we live between the neo-something-from-recent-or-distant-past and the post-everything. In art, if today is yesterday, tomorrow will be the day before yesterday .” — Frederico Morais >>> The 9th season of the festival served as a beacon to stimulate Rio’s tropical scene. We begin our review of the approaching 10th year presenting a variety of artistic forms. Definitely, we took a step forward amplifying our noise, we’ve attracted new audiences, we broke off our format and designed a new landscape for Rio de Janeiro with our continuing contributions in the technological arts, on and off stage. ¶ In 2013, we presented 82 artists from 12 countries at Oi Futuro Flamengo and at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage with performances, concerts, installations, exhibitions, book launches, workshops and discussion panels divided among the theater, galleries, halls, classrooms, the dance floor and the effusive nature. 2014 – Year 10 _ “I think one of the main concerns of art corresponds to the fate of the gold miner, who defines himself as someone who lives looking for what he did not lose. “ – Cildo Meireles >>> Where are we and where we go are issues that we will still wander without definitive answers, stimulated by the construction of creative processes, contemporary techniques, transgressions, rapture and trials that include the extremes of electronic arts. ¶ The outlook for 2014, our 10th season, is to grab ART with stamina, because without it, life is not enough.

A Secretaria de Estado de Cultura (SEC) vem trabalhando desde 2008 para difundir, estimular e fortalecer a cultura do Rio de Janeiro, criando mecanismos de fomento e políticas para o setor, em todas suas vertentes, buscando contemplar desde as manifestações mais tradicionais de arte e cultura até as experimentais.

Dentre os projetos patrocinados pela Secretaria, através da Lei Estadual de Incentivo à Cultura do Rio de Janeiro, está o Festival Multiplicidade, que durante quase uma década tem cumprido papel fundamental no cenário artístico do estado ao orquestrar convergências estimulantes entre diferentes linguagens e disciplinas, trazendo para uma mesma arena artes visuais, novas tecnologias, música e audiovisual.

No acumulado de todas suas edições, o Multiplicidade atraiu um público de milhares de pessoas para conhecer e ser provocado por centenas de artistas, de diferentes vertentes, vindos dos quatro cantos do mundo.

Por meio de ações como essa, estamos investindo nas artes do estado e ampliando o estímulo constante ao setor, que se dá também através de editais, de projetos como o Circuito Estadual das Artes e o Novas Cenas, por meio do Prêmio de Cultura do Governo do Rio e pela programação de espaços como a Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, a Casa França-Brasil, os teatros João Caetano, Glaucio Gill e o Theatro Municipal.

Dessa forma, promovendo a criação artística, bem como a integração cultural e a pesquisa de novas linguagens, reafirmamos o Rio de Janeiro como um dos principais centros de referência da produção artística do país.

the State Secretary of culture (Sec) has been working since 2008 to promote, stimulate and strengthen rio de Janeiro’s culture, creating support mechanisms and policies for the sector, in all its aspects, considering both traditional culture and experimental art.

among other projects sponsored by the Secretariat through the State law for Promotion of culture of rio de Janeiro, there is Multiplicidade Festival, that has playing a fundamental role in the art scene of the state, orchestrating exciting convergences between different languages and disciplines, bringing in to the same arena, visual arts, new technologies, music and audiovisual.

In the totality of all its editions, Multiplicidade Festival attracted an audience of thousands of people to meet up and be instigated by hundreds of artists, from different sources and the four corners of the world.

through actions like this, we are investing in the state’s art and expanding the continuous boost to the sector, which happens also through public notices, and projects as Circuito Estadual das artes and Novas Cenas, using the Prêmio de Cultura do Governo do rio, and through the programming of the venues Escola de artes Visuais do Parque Lage, Casa França-Brasil and theaters João Caetano, Glaucio Gill and teatro Municipal.

A cultura é essencial na vida dos cidadãos e da cidade. É também uma vocação do Rio de Janeiro. Por isso, a Prefeitura investiu ao longo de 2013 cerca de R$270 milhões em projetos culturais de artistas e produtores cariocas e em sua rede de equipamentos culturais. Foram mais de 500 espetáculos, festivais, mostras, filmes, séries de TV, livros, exposições, shows, cursos e ações de inclusão e democratização do acesso, entre outras iniciativas.

O Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR) foi inaugurado em março de 2013 e já recebeu mais de 200 mil visitantes. Foram criados 50 pontos de cultura em todas as regiões da cidade. Começou a funcionar a nova Lei Municipal de Incentivo à Cultura, a maior do país em nível municipal. São números recordes, que fazem do Rio a capital brasileira que mais investe em cultura.

A Secretaria Municipal de Cultura parabeniza o Multiplicidade que a cada ano enriquece o cenário cultural carioca a partir da mistura de som e imagem realizada de maneira singular e inusitada durante todo o festival.

It’s also rio de Janeiro’s vocation. for this reason, the Mayorship invested throughout 2013 about r$ 270 million in artists and local producers’ cultural projects, and in its cultural facilities networks. there were more than 500 shows, festivals, shows, movies, tV series, books, exhibitions, concerts, courses and acts of inclusion and democratization of access, among others initiatives.

INTRO

Uma história muito singular construída a cada atração, a cada performance. Uma trajetória única feita somente de estreias. O Multiplicidade chega à nona edição – nasceu em 2005, com e para o Oi Futuro – e continua a se reinventar, a servir de inspiração para outros festivais e, mais importante, com o mesmo frescor, mantido sempre pelo desafio do inédito, do risco. Com formato estendido único, com atrações que se espalham pelo ano, o Multiplicidade tem se firmado, edição a edição, como um dos mais importantes do país, disputado por artistas brasileiros e estrangeiros interessados na ampliação, cada vez maior, das fronteiras artísticas.

Esta 9ª temporada do Multiplicidade foi recheada de grandes momentos. Mas, pelo menos dois deles podem ser considerados históricos. A abertura, em agosto, com uma ocupação total do Oi Futuro Flamengo, com direito a uma atração especial para as crianças e performances acachapantes dos artistas internacionais Daedelus e AtomTm; e outro, em outubro, quando a expressão multiplicidade talvez tenha atingido seu grau máximo, com remixagem de um documentário brasileiro inédito feita pelo próprio diretor, com intervenções interativas programadas por um catalão e os meninos dançarinos do passinho dando um show ao vivo e em cores.

Também em 2013, o festival cravou outro marco importante. O festival expandiu seus multidomínios ainda mais pela cidade, envolvendo um quantitativo de público maior, em dois dias inteiros de programação especial em um dos mais bonitos cartões postais do Rio, o Parque Lage. As áreas internas e os jardins da construção do início do século XX transformaram-se em palco – e suporte – para impactantes intervenções artísticas deste nosso século.

E, em se tratando de festivais, a edição anual de um livro é ainda característica única do Multiplicidade. Para além de um catálogo-registro, a obra é, invariavelmente, uma peça de design arrojada, com imagens e textos que surpreendem a cada página, que encantam e hipnotizam, como cada uma das atrações desses nove anos de festival.

a very unique story built on each attraction, each performance. one single course made solely by premieres. Multiplicidade reaches the ninth edition – it was born with and to oi Futuro in 2005 - and continues to reinvent itself, to inspire other festivals and, more importantly, with the same freshness, always maintained by the unprecedented challenge of risk. In an unique extended format, with attractions spread throughout the year, Multiplicidade consolidates, edition by edition, one of the most important in the country, disputed by Brazilian and foreign artists interested in the increasingly expanding artistic boundaries.

the Multiplicidade’s season 9 was full of great moments. But at least two of them can be considered historical. the opening in august, with total occupation of oi Futuro Flamengo, presenting a special attraction for children and overwhelming performances by international artists Daedelus and atomtM; and another in october, when the expression multiplicity perhaps had reached its maximum degree with an unprecedented remixing Brazilian documentary edited by the director himself, with interactive intervention programming coded by a catalan and passinho dance boys performing live and color.

also in 2013, the festival has carved another important milestone. the festival expanded its multidomain further around the city, involving a larger quantitative audience, in a two-day program at one of the rio’s most beautiful postcards, Parque Lage. the internal areas of the building and the gardens of the early twentieth century turned into stages - and support – for impacting artistic interventions from this our century.

and when it comes to festivals, the annual book edition is still an unique feature of Multiplicidade. Besides a catalog-documentation, the work is invariably a piece of bold design, carrying astonishing images and text that wonders every page, that enchant and hypnotize, like each one of these nine-year festival attractions.
