We can
't always pin point w
hat creates situations of social unrest andit is often difficult to predict w
hen they will surface. T
here is no onew
ay to revolt just as there is no prime subject to be in struggle. W
espend days, m
onths and years on the project of liberation in a society that
promises us everything and gives us nothing. In this society nihilism
is notan option but a state of being w
hich means that often anarchists are forced
into a role of fighting for a future that w
ill never come, not because w
e live forconflict but because w
e strive for freedom; an insatiatble disposition that lives
in permanent conflict w
ith every aspect of what this society has to offer.
The possibility of a student strike has lingered in the air since the culm
inationof
the last one in 2007. T
he months before the
strike were steady
with
demonstrations
and anarchist activity, a normality for the city of M
ontreal.T
he indications that this strike might becom
e something bigger than us felt like
whispers and w
avering intentions. What it becam
e was som
ething beyond anyspecific social group or intervening force. W
hat became of that five letter w
ordw
as uncontrollable.
For reasons that w
e cannot fabricate, the strike marked a coalescing of so m
anydifferent crew
s, groups, organizations etc. who all contributed to creating the
current social temper in M
ontreal. Like a thunderstorm
in July, the presenceof
activity had
no one
source but instead
came from
everyw
here. What
differentiated these mom
ents in time from
all of the other days spent meeting,
writing, plotting and planning is th
at this time, w
e were not alone.
What has com
e out of the 'student strike' is unquantifiable and difficult to
capture in words. T
he daily struggle against domination and its totality w
illnever end, and in this w
ay there cannot be a start or an end of the 'studentstrike,' nor the general strike, nor the unlim
ited strike or any other strike forth
at matter.
With the strike cam
e a series of experiences, street fights, relationships, personaland com
munal grow
th and a collective mem
ory of all of those mom
ents when
we felt closer to a life w
orth living.
This com
pilation has been put together to share with those w
ho weren't w
ithus in M
ontreal to understand what w
as happening during all those days and toextrapolate these narritives upon your reality. F
or those of us who w
ere presentduring the strike, this com
pilation is to help us remem
ber.
The texts in this pam
phlet are a compilation of anonym
ous writings that w
erepublished through various new
s sources and websites during the student strike in
Montreal 2012.
Many of these pieces originally surfaced in french. T
hanks to everyone who
focused on translation and helped to encourage comm
unication across languagebarriers.

A m
ajor railroad w
as sab otagedduringthe evening of Wednesday June 13th, in a farm

ideactions againsttheM

Am
ericas.
The train signals system w
as turned on by sabotaging the electric box that controls thesignals near an intersection, w
hich eventually prompted the train traffic
to be suspendedfor a m
oment. This location w
as carefully picked up, not only for the easy task it w
as, butabove that for the crucial nature of the m
erchandise it transports, including a lot of filthyoil com
ing from the tar sands in the W
est, before this sole railw
ay divides into different
destinations such as Sherbrooke city, Brom
ont's techno-park (which hosts som
e of thebiggest nam
es in the high-tech industry, including the infamous IBM
) and further down
on to New
England.
This w
as just a beginning. T
here are many m
ore fluxes that are crucial to the
functionning of this system of oppression and its H
oly Merchandise, and w
e arecom
mitted to do it again, and strike targets th
at will alw
ays hurt them m
ore. Given
our indefinite number (that ain't an «invisible com
mittee » for nothing), it is strongly
recomm
ended that each and every striker or supporter gets her/his hands
dirty, alone or into groups, because w
e do not believe that these feel-good dem
osntrationsw
ill be enough to make Pow
er change his mind. A
nd the proof is in plain view...
months
of strikes, and even w
ith our m
any fine hits and great achievements,
especially in the face of the judicial/police despotism, the governm
ent still won't
give a damn about our m
ost basic demands, and the cops are now
clamping dow
non m
ainstream dissenters like they'd do w
ith dangerous criminals. W
e are under adictatorship, because liberty is now
being considered a high crime.
To let this train ride -this very train th
at allows them
to profit from the devastating
exploitation- is to collaborate in silence. We say: « E
NO

his can't go on like this. The techno-industrial society, because it intoxicates the
living and destroys conditions of life, must be FO
RC
ED to a stop, or else it'll soon
be forcing us into mass graves! F
ukushima w
as only the first sign of this ongoingcatastrophy.
So we w
ill make sure that the capitalists are paying for their abuse. M
aybe the billw
asn't very heavy, but we all can add our tw
o cents!
Sabotage isn't som
e vanguardist tactic or some childish vandalism
, neither it isa provocation on the part of « sm
ashers from outside of the m
ovement » just as
the filthy cops dare to spit in our ears (but who's still stupid enough to even listen
to them?). It has long been a com
pletely rational and legit course of action, that
empow
ered AL
L of the strikes that changed history. In the face of a m
achine that'llnever discuss anything and alw
ays enforces its conditions through dictates, sabotageis one of the m
eans to comm
unicate revolt by putting it in relation with a w
ideruprising, and by im
posing our own conditions to the crooks in pow
er; that they walk
along with these, or die along w
ith their system!
This sm
all gesture of resistance to the one-way train of industrial capitalism

ranging between $7000 and $35,000. If a student association as a w
hole is foundguilty of the above, they w
ill be subjected of a fine between $25,000 and $125,000.
The am
ounts are doubled for second offenses, and student associations can lose onesem
ester of mem
bership fees for every day that the law is violated. It is also illegal to
encourage any other person to attend an illegal demonstration, and it is potentially
illegal to livetweet w
here the demo is and w
hat it's up to at any given time.
In the three days that the Special Law
has been in place, its tangible effect on them
ovement has been that C
LASSE (B
road Coalition of the A
ssociation for Student
Syndicalist Solidarity), the most radical student union, has taken dow
n its calendarof events, w
hich listed all of the actions that were happening in M
ontreal and othercities across Q
uebec. A new
anonymous w
ebsite has gone up.
In and of themselves, these tw
o new law
s will probably not contribute m
uch toputting m
ore people behind bars in the same w
ay as the federal government's
project of prison expansion and criminal justice overhaul. Instead, the aim
is todestroy the finances of organizations that have accom
modated them
selves to thesystem
and perhaps recoup some of the enorm
ous costs incurred as a result ofeconom
ic sabotage, traffic and comm
uter chaos, and police overtime over the last
few m
onths. To be clear, the fat bank accounts of the student federations w
ere acrucial com
ponent of this situation beginning, and since they could be helpful in thefuture, they're w
orth defending. Sustaining the revolt, however, does not require
money as m
uch as courage, will and creativity. W
e will get w
hat we need to keep
fighting, even if it becomes som
ewhat harder to do so.
Still, what happened in legislative assem
blies and city council meetings has had
and will have an effect on the streets. D
emos are being declared as illegal from
them
oment they begin, w
hich emboldens the SPV
M (local cops) and SQ
(provincialcops) to use m
ore intense dispersal techniques and greater levels of force earlier on.Prior to this law
, they'd taken eyes, broken arms, shattered jaw
s, and put people intolife-threatening com
as. But people are still in the streets, throw
ing asphalt at riotcops and building burning barricades...

To contextualize things, the
strike—if
defined as students refusing
to attendschool—
began at the start of February w
hen most of the C
EGEPs (public colleges)
in the province of Quebec, as w
ell as two of the largest universities voted to strike.
Through a series of consistent general assem
blies, the student unions and specificfaculties of these schools have m
aintained that they are on strike, each of the bodiesdefining their intentions and goals. For som
e of the schools, continuing the strikehas been a w
eek-to-week renegotiation w
hile others voted right from the beginning
to participate in an unlimited general strike, and still others voted to strike until all
education was free.
At first, the governm
ent refused to negotiate with the student federations, insisting
that the decision had already been made. It took until the latter half of A
pril beforetalks could happen, thanks in large part to the unilateral call for a truce by C
LASSED
executive without the consultation of the m
embership. This truce took the form
ofC
LASSE stating that no actions w
ould happen under their name w
hile negotiationsw
ere in progress. Talks broke dow

A to

break up an occupation of a downtow

Those protesters are expected to face a range of charges th

and mischief,
Constable A

"We d

Meanw

Said L

the early-morning events:
"Thirty-seven arrests. T

"were

early morning
confrontation with the forces of order, she said.
Eight

those detained
are minors.
On-site
damage included broken

"I couldn't say that they necessarily broke in," she said. "T

STUDENT ACTION AND DEMONSTRATION AGAINST THE
POLICE
ACT 1
As the student strike in Q
uebec develops, there have been weekly "m
anif-actions"12
(action demos) w
ith the goal of economic disruption. L
ate yesterday morning, a
a fuck about the special law!) w
ith anti-government and anti-cop chants. Som
e 40m
inutes after the start of the demo cops charged against the crow
d without w
arning,throw
ing bombs at the height of peoples heads, as alw
ays, and so began the clashes. The crow
d responded with rocks, sm
oke bombs and m
olotov cocktails, many groups
splintered and clashes continued until 3:30am w
ith window
s smashed and copcars
vandalized. There were a dozen arrests and a m
an was hospitalized in serious condition
after the cops shot him in the liver point blank w
ith a plastic bullet.

Another huge crow
d of thousands of people took to the streets being the 26thnightly dem

as given to the cops.T
he demo left P

heSPV
M declared the protest illegal a few
minutes after it began and repeated m
anytim

arning with the crow

convoy of several buses of the SQ
riot-squad (provincial police) followed the
demonstration through parallel streets. S
everal people were m
asked, challengingthe new
municipal rule, effective the sam

A little after 10pm
cops provoked the crowd w
ith arbitrary arrests and startedto gas. T
he clashes started and barricades w
ere erected, notably one at the
corner of O

Saint-D

hilecop cruisers and riot-squad buses w

they received orders to leave. Probably they w
anted pictures of the interventionof the riots-quad against a background of fires to legitim

cops attacking anyone on the street or on the terraces of bars on St. D

of the cops, that "the rioters set fire to M

There w
ere 69 arrests according to the cops, arresting just about anyone at anytim

a weapon and arson. T

on bail on May 22 (note th

of several police cars. Projectiles and insults w
ere hurled at the unprepared cops asthey drove up and scurried to don their riot gear.
For a mom
ent, bodies occupied the entire eight lanes of Rene-L
evesque as peoplehurried to m
ake the decision of whether to turn back to dow
ntown or disperse.
Some people decided to return to the larger dem
o and managed to rejoin it at S
t.C
atherine while others dispersed here.
At this point the dem
o began to head north on St D
enis. Som
e people in the crowd
severely beat up a person with a cam
era who w
as taking pictures of them, as others
tried to diminish the scuffle. T
he police blocked off the main intersection of O
ntarioand rue S
t. Denis, and before anyone had tim
e to come up w
ith any quick plan ofaction, recycling bins w
ere strewn into the street. B
ottles fell first to the ground, then w
ere thrown at the line of riot cops at the end of the street. A
t this point, the pacifist portion of the dem
o (?!) began booing at the people throwing bottles,
explaining that this is a peaceful demonstration. T
he next three minutes dim
inishedinto the crow
d engaging in shouting arguments, pushing each other and getting up
in each other's shit over the merits of violence and the explicit "peacefulness " of the
demo.
At this point, sensing an im
pending mass arrest, m
any people ditched out over ahigh fence, leaving the pacifists to fend for them
selves. As people w
ere dispersing asm
all group stayed there picking up the trash and put it back into the recycling bin,10 yards from
the line of riots cops at which the bottles had just been throw
n.
Several minutes later in the sam
e spot from w
hich people had just dispersed, riotpolice began to clear the streets pushing everyone out and ending w
hatever was left
of the demonstration.

(stop here if you're sick of reading about pacifists).
A continuing problem
of the student movem
ent is the way th
at university activismseem
s to breed pacifists in the same w
ay it breeds politicians and bosses. The
student strike to this point has been centered around demonstrations and actions
of thousands of people gathering in the streets with nothing to do but stare at itself.
Now
, when the police have seriously w
ounded a comrade, w
e see tensions rise as thestudent m
ovement has to deal w
ith itself and its place in society. In this situation,no longer w
as the issue about "the issues", so well laid out and articulated w
iththe appropriate politician to be blam
ed and the solution devised through fundingalternatives (such as the P
lan Nord, as one m
ember of A
SSE** suggested). The issue
becomes the reality of engaging against pow
er, outside of the classroom, w
hen thesense of ow
nership and entitlement
of one's struggle is challenged. The student
struggle has now
exited the w
orld of liability to administration
and academic
probation and has begun to engage society as a whole.
Last n
igh
t, race and class dynamics em
erged in the way different people engaged
in their response. A
t one particular poin
t it was hard to ignore how
a primarily
white group
of pacifists were actively
trying to hold back a crew of young
people of colour who w

The crow

the following is a text w
e've received:
Since the beginning of the strike, there have been over 1000 arrests, many injuries
(two people of w
hich have lost an
eye, while tw
o other dem
onstrators found
themselves in com
a after being attacked by the police), many are facing charges
and increasingly restrictive conditions
like curfews and non-association, several
comrades are in political exile (they are not allow
ed to be on the island of Montreal,
and are thus also kept far from those they care about), and others are currently
in prison. This is happening in a context w
here the state is becoming increasingly
fascist. The anti-m
ask law the governm
ent is trying to pass is exemplary: w
earing am
ask during a demonstration punishable by a ten year sentence.
Since the beginning, the social peace necessary for capitalism
to run has beendisrupted by an im
aginative social movem
ent. At the sam
e time as the state raises
tuition and slashes social services in order to maintain profits for the elite, it is also
subsidizing companies involved in resource extraction looking to m
ake profits bygutting Indigenous territories in the north and setting up new
security measures
and spending millions on the construction and expansion of over thirty prisons; this
is capitalism in all its glory.
This system
has been imposed on us by force. T
he police, the courts, and the prisonsaren't there to protect us; they are m
eant to enforce a system of dom
ination. The
same ones throw
tear gas and plastic bullets the instant a demonstration escapes
their control and support the bosses during each strike. They are the ones w
ho putthem
selves between the hungry and the superm
arket shelves teeming w
ith food,the hom
eless and vacant buildings, between im
migrants and their fam
ilies.
Their violence is not accidental; it is essential to their existence. T
his system uses
intimidation
and isolation to try to discourage any form of resistance. F
reedomis held captive in the hands of a judiciary w
hich zigzags between bail, restrictive
conditions, criminal charges, and im
prisonment.
Faced w
ith this,
an active
solidarity, involving
neither condem
nation nor
dissociation, with all those crim
inalized by the State becom
es essential. Denouncing
the criminalization of dem
onstrations, opposing targeted arrests and snitch culture, providing legal, financial, and m
oral support to the arrested and demanding th
atthe state drops their charges, keeping an eye on police practices, taking care of thoseinjured, supporting each other, as w
ell as continuing, expanding, and intensifyingthe struggle of our arrested com
rades - these are all the foundations of a culture ofstruggle th
at we need to build and develop.
Let's break the isolation of the prison w
alls. Shut dow
n the prisons that are yetanother m
ethod that the state uses to try to subject us to its control.

.15
Around 11 P
M, tension has started to rise as the citizen-cops started to attem
pt aclean up and enforce the law
by «putting things back in place» as others kept takingthe furniture out in the street. A
person ripped chairs from the hands of a hooded
comrade and tried to rip the com
rades mask off, w
hich got the person a well-deserved
punch in the face. It's simple : if you act like cops you are joining the enem
y so youw
ill be treated as such. Wanna play cops? Face the consequences.
After a short confrontation betw
een the citizen-cops and the hooded ones, a crowd
of about 200 people detached itself and zig-zag'ed in the streets shouting anti-pacifist slogans and leaving on their tracks m
any walls and one cop car covered w
ithanti-police and circled A
graffiti. When the crow
d arrived near the building of La
Presse -the m
ost mainstream
bourgeois, reactionary newspaper in Q
uebec, one ofQ
uebec's "Fourth B
ranch" of the State- its w
indows w
ere shattered to bits (the news
outlet itself was forced to report on it... dow
nplaying it as a mere "isolated" act) and
once more the citizen-cops or undercovers -the only difference being their w
age-show
ed up and attacked a hooded comrade, but this tim
e the hooded ones foughtback collectively and, defending their com
rade, pushed back the attack. The crow
dthen dispersed not long after w
ith any arrests, even though there are rumors that
one was arrested during the protest.
A bit later at around 1 A
M, about fifteen people w
ho were chilling out drinking
beer in a collective space received a visit from an entire squad of cops. T
he situationquickly escalated seem
ingly after someone w
as seen by the pigs with a bottle of beer
outside. Many people w
ere pepper sprayed, about twenty cops rushed in aggressively
as if it were a raid, w
ith batons in hand, some in riot gear and w
ith a dog. There w
erefive arrests. O
utside the riot-squad deployed for dispersing the people who gathered
at the street corner.

This is related to events that happened on M
arch 15th, a few hours before
the anti-policeprotest th
at becam
e famous in the m
edia these last few days.
On M
arch 15th, around N
oon, a comrade w
as kidnapped by policemen in plain
clothes as she was doing her m
orning jugging run near her place, in the Hochelaga
neighborhood. AS
she was exiting a backstreet, her run w
as interrupted par thearrival of a grey fam
ily minivan. A
tall and muscular m
an came out of the m
inivan.A
t the same tim
e, another car cutted in diagonally, and a third one, from behind
in the backstreet. Our com
rade was cornered. T
he tall and muscular m
an adressedher by saying : « H
i ***, I am an agent of the
Montreal Police departem
ent.x-
You're under arrest,
we have a w
arrant against you. You m
ust follow us. »
I will not go in
to descriptive detail of the injury he had, but these w
ere lacerations,w
hich couldn't have been the result of plastic bullets or pool balls, even rocks.A
lexander had no mask, no hood, he w
as in a t-shirt. My guess is th
at he was
overcome by tear gas, found him
self blinded and disoriented. Shots from
bothsides w
ere made, and he w
ould have received a grenade at that m
oment. W
em
ust rem
ember th
at all this happened at the beginning of the so-called "R
iot",w
hen the pro
testers had little projectiles. On the other hand,
the grenades
thrown by the police are m
etal objects that deploy on contact, triggering
theexplosion of the container and therefore can cause severe cuts. T
his is what I
believe happened to Alexander.
What I experienced is a confrontation w
ith violence which is close to the aesthetics
of war. F
or two days now
, I explain the images th
at pass through me, I think of
the police intervention, the sm
ell of tear gas. I was disturbed to later see health
status of A
lexander in the media, to see th
at what I felt really fit in proportion
to the severity of the injury. It was not sim
ply a dramatic structure th
at I hadbuilt. I am
also angry to see that once again, the m
edia serve the interests ofthose w
ho govern and hold the monopoly on violence. It has been said th
at we
had been infiltrated by a minority of thugs, th
at there was no police brutality,
the repressive response was norm
al since we had crossed a "sym
bolic boundary"th
at had been drawn around the hotel. W
e were show
n a pile of rocks, sticksand tie-w
raps, obviously picked up at random, to dem
onstrate the agitation ofthe dem
onstrators. W
e were served an entirely assem
bled narrative to justifym
ilitary interv
entio
n to pro
tect officials and government representatives.
They try to m
ake us swallow
that A
lexander was injured by other dem
onstratorsor protesters, th
at ultimately it is "our fault". If there is an investigation of the
Surete du Q
uebec in this event, it will be again to conclude th
at they are notresponsible. A
lready, the press conferences have shown us: asserting
a "symbolic
boundary" in no way allow
s the extent of physical attacks on people in any way
equipped to fight on equal terms.
In sho
rt, no matter w
here this account finds itself, I w
ant it to be able to resonatew
ith oth
er people who saw
, who heard, th
at it contributes to a critical discourse.T
o make our collective m
emory allow
us to say that w
e will not forget, th
at thereis no forgiveness for those w
ho claim to defend the justice of the social elite.

MARCH 15™ - FUCK THE POLICE
On the evening of M
arch 15 (international day against police brutality) in Montreal,
although riot pigs were all over, they clearly lost control of the city center for several hours.
Already
in the
afternoon, the
Berri-U
QA
M
station w
as filled with riot
copsinside and outside, the
sky with helicopters, patrols of pigs in the streets and
later riotsquads and horsemen. E
ven with this display of force they w
erent up tothe task. Proof th
at here as elsewhere revolt is m
ore than possible. We can even
thank in part the cops on Thursday for the riot, they fed it and gave it strength.
They gave it strength w
hen they charged on the demo of a few
thousand peopleon S
herbrooke after twenty m
inutes of sloganeering and anti-cop graffiti, which
resulted in several pacifist hippie parasites and the selfdescribed students with the
bourgeois leftist mentality to go hom
e. The ones w
ho wanted m
ore than to take aw
alk wondering w
hat the fuck they were doing in another pathetic ritual of slogans,
divided into smaller m
obile groups that dispersed and reform
ed to fuck shit up allnight long.
The cops also fueled it w
hen they attacked the people downtow
n with their arsenal,
on St-C
atherine street. From
then on the rage was unleashed on the streets. T
herew
ere probably also many bored young people w
ho are regularly targets of profilingand saw
there a great opportunity for their turn to piss on the cops and it wasnt to
long for it to come. A
s this same line of cops w
as advancing they took a volley ofstones, bottles and a m
olotov and in an attempt to block the road further, the riot
pigs fled from the crow
d earning on each side. Mom
ents later, while bins w
ere flyingdow
n the street and into a few shop w
indows, the crow
d fell on a brand new cop car,
pigs included. The car w
as attacked with projectiles and you could see the terror and
panic in the face of the two cops as they fled the crow
d charging on the car. Later a
vandalized cop car was flipped over.
By late evening a crow
d gathered again at the B
erri Square, w
here it had all begun,to leave once again. It's w
hen the crowd dispersed to M
aisonneuve and Ontario
that the cops surrounded people on the sidew
alk to make a m
ass arrest. They
held the crowd of about 200 people surrounded for several hours and th
en filled
some buses and took them
to a police station in Langelier, far from
downtow
n,w
here they proceeded to identify people and give them tickets for "gathering
endangering peace" and release them, but not before having photographed them
one-by-one. There w
as also during the day and evening several random arrests
and others targeted.

arch 15th is every d

it
To w
rite one's experience is a means of expression. T
o put it outside of oneself, and be able to understand, to regain pow
er. If I write w
hat I experienced Friday
in Victoriaville, it's to put a distance from
what I've felt since, to share it for
deconstructing the m
edia discourse
and misinform
ation, so that
ultimately
these events, instead of dividing and defeating us, bring us collective power.
This account is intended as a revisiting of the events surrounding a dem
onstratorw
ho's head was severely injured. I w
as present in the case of A
lexander, them
oment
he found him
self on
the ground,
until he left in
an ambulance.
Little tim
e separated the mom
ent when the crow
d control barriers fell fromw
hen the officers of the Quebec P
rovincial Police used tear gas projectiles. In
more or less 15 m
inutes, those in the crowd w
ho had no masks or scarves had
to quickly step back and take refuge to avoid the drafts of tear gas. With no eye
protection and because of the inten
se effect of the gas, I was forced to m
ove. At
times, I w
as completely blinded and had trouble finding m
y breath, I had thereflex to seek the support of dem
onstrators to find a safe place. I th
en cleanedm
y eyes with a solution of m
ilk of magnesia and w
ater, then went back to w
herethe largest crow
d was the located w
ith a friend.
There w
ere easily 300 to 400 people who w
ere near the hotel; either in action,th
at is to say close to the police, or further back. There w
as an atmosphere of
tension, anger, but also solidarity. The them
e of challenging the power of the
Liberal party w
ove cohesion through the crowd and support for a diversity of
tactics.
All th
is lasted probably another 10 to 15 minutes.
So we w
ere on Steve street near the
Sonic gas station, w
e redirected peoplebothered by the tear gas so th
at they could get treated, and then w
e crossedthe street, passing behind the shops on A
rthabaska East street. T
hen we cam
eto a grassy field behind the N
aud row. T
here were a lot of drafts of the gas, but
as it dispersed quickly, people were not affected m
uch. At th
at time, there w
ereno officers on the grounds. W
e decided it was a w
ell-placed spot to observe theevents and decide about w
hat to do next. From
the point where I stood, it w
aspossible to see th
at there w
ere clashes with the SQ
officers on Arthabaska, again
I emphasize the am
ount of tear gas that w
as launched to scare the crowd.
Then I heard people shouting th
at there w
as someone injured, to m
ake space. Isaw
a group of people carrying the body of a man in his tw
enties. He w
as laid onthe ground and I knelt beside him
. I didn't have a first aid kit with m
e, but I havefirst aid training so I proceeded: I checked his state of consciousness, I m
ade surehe w
as stable and maintained his position, I then looked to see if he had any
injuries. Every stage happened very quickly. H
e was first clearly unconscious, he
was foam
ing out of its mouth, he seem
ed about to choke. I opened his mouth
and moved his tongue, he coughed and started breathing m
ore regularly. Then
I noticed that on the side of his head a large quantity of blood w
as flowing. 1

Bachand added, "W
e listened, we w

Charest, m
eanwhile, said he hopes the striking students return to class.
Students have blocked both entrances to the P
ort of Montreal
The striking students held another action of econom
ic disruption by blocking bothentrances to the P
ort of Montreal for over an hour this m
orning.
About 200 students gathered at M
etro Prefontaine headed for the station L
angelier,w
here they arrived around 10am. T
hey then took the boulevard Langelier contraflow
south, then Haig S
treet, where they m
ade a short jog. Arrived at N
otre Dam
e, thegroup split.
Part of the dem
onstrators went to block the entry of B
ossuet Street, w
est side, andthe other group, m
ore importantly, prevented the access of B
oucherville Street.
Dozens of truckers w
ishing to travel to the port were hostages of the situation. S
ome
supporting young even if it makes them
lose money, since they are paid to travel and
not by the hour.
A driver w
ho was going to port to take com
mand of a ship regretted the delay that
this action was taken to the boat. "B
ut at least young people take action. I hope theyw
ill mobilize against by it for other things. Like to vote, "he said.
Around 11:15, a representative
SPVM
came to inform
the protesters near the
Boucherville S
treet they had to leave, "for their own safety and avoid arrest" because
the port authority asked that young free places .
The protesters decided to resum
e their march w
estward, to m
eet their colleaguesstationed at the entrance B
ossuet.
There they rem
ained until about 11:45.
At th
at time, a com
mander of the SPV
M advised, the m
icrophone of his patrol van,th
at the protest was now
considered illegal. An ad that has received answ
ers to thefingers of honors and other insults.
Mom
ents later, two team
s in the intervention group, helmeted and arm
ed with
shields and batons, the protesters took sandwich on N
otre Dam
e.
But a sm
all core more stubborn, m
any on their faces masked, one carrying a shield
same craft, did not blink until one of tw
o response teams in the load striking their
sticks on their shields . Assaults by a sm
all block away, they rejected the last resisters
north of Bossuet, before letting them
go.
The group w
alked to the subway C
adillac to return to the city center.
This is not the first tim
e that students are challenging the activities of the Port of
Montreal. T
hey did the 22 March 28 M
arch and 5 April.
20
tear gas and throwing stun grenades into the crow
d which responded by throw
ingstones and sm
ashing a few w
indows, like one of L
oto-Quebec. A
fter several minutes
being chased, the crowd began to disperse and reform
ed shortly after in St. L
ouisSquare to m
arch towards the E
milie-G
amelin park w
here a student demonstration
was called for the evening.
The cops deployed everyw
here and began jumping on anyone. O
ne hundred arreststook place including a m
ass arrest of 70 people just before 19h. Many people w
ereable to converge at E
milie-G
amelin P
ark. Cops cars w
ere splashed with red and pink
paint and a clash with riotpigs arresting people took place before they dispersed and
distanced themselves w
hile the more pacified student crow
d gathered for their 8thnightly dem
o.

According to the cops there w
ere a total of 85 arrests of some 10,000 dem
onstrators.
As to be expected in all the m
ass protests, some citizen-cops and dogm
atic pseudo-pacifists
booed and even
attacked hooded people who strike-back against
theoppressive system
, having understood that to transform the w
orld around us ittakes m
uch more than just orderly m
arches, no matter how
massive and peaceful.
Those w
ho have no interest in things changing, the privileged of this world w
hoare reaping the benefits of the m
onopoly of violence, defend the logic of the abuserw
ho says that violence is always legitim
ate when it is he w
ho uses it. The so-called
"pacifists" in their hypocritical dogmatism
are collaborators with the violence th
atis perpetrated every day around the globe against the poor, against w
omen, against
children, against indigenous people and people of different color, against animals
and all of Nature, at the hands
of the racist, patriarchal, colonial, mercantilist,
totalitarian and genocidal social order. When w
e mention these things w
ith theseautom
atons we are system
atically criticized for being apologists of violence... Do
these same "pacifists" jum
p on the cops when they throw
bombs, shoot gas and
charge with batons on young people protesting?
Or w
hen these cops shoot andkill people in the street or the subw
ay? Do they attack soldiers returning from
abom
bing mission in a "far aw
ay" country because those who have the m
onopoly ofviolence w
ant the oil there? No, never. T
hey rationalize this violence. In the heightof absurdity, these pacifists perpetuate the system
atic violence of this shit society byattacking those w
ho, destroying symbols of pow
er and attacking those who are paid
to be violent, put themselves at risk and revolt in any possible w
ay in solidarity with
the oppressed of this world.
While the m
ass disinformation m
edia are stuck on denouncing violence ever sincethe first fart from
the first student protest of the strike, mobilizing their w
holebrain eating m
achine to manipulate, dum
bdown and divide... that the governm
entthought it could let the youth rot and see them
disappear under the weight of an
aging and resigned population... that the cops thought they'd have but a few m
oreanecdotes for jokes around som
e beers about the protesters they frightened andbeat the shit out of... this m
ovement continues to radicalize itself, to overcom
e itsconfined and reductive student identity and to break w
ith the monopoly of violence
belonging to the sociopaths of above and their mercenaries. B
ecause Freddy, Michel
and Farshad w
ere murdered by the sam
e cops who profile us socially, racially and
politically, who deported our fam
ily, friends and lovers, who throw
us out of everyneighborhood w
hile cardboard condos spring up everywhere for "real people", w
hobeat up, pepper spray, and throw
bombs at their heads of the youth show
ing us th^irsocial conscience. In N
itassinan, the Innu and those who rem
ain living on this cornerof the E
arth are getting run over and stepped on by a bunch of parasites and th^irsponsors; the sam
e bastards that shit on us everyday and find it funny looking at us
always sinking deeper into their shit... th
ere are loads of reason
s to smash
it all!

Today, A
pril 20th, was the start of the Salon de 1'em
ploi du Plan Nord at the Palais des
congres [the main conference center in M
ontreal] as two dem
os were called to disrupt
the unfolding of this government propaganda operation w
here notably the prime
minister C
hares t was to put on his little show
promoting his industrial m
egaprojectof destruction (forestry, m
ining, dams, infrastructure, etc.) of northern so called
Quebec, one of few
places on Earth w
here there still remains w
ild untouched areas.
A dem
o called by the CLA
SSE (the main student coalition in the ongoing Q
uebecstudent strike) gathering over 1000 people headed tow
ard the Palais des congres.W
ith the repressive apparatus already deployed, around noon a group was able to
enter the first floor through an inside parking lot and tried to get to the second floorw
here the Fair was taking place. T
he cops pushed some people dow
n the stairs. Ascuffle w
ith the cops and some vandalism
followed as the prim
e gangster Charest
was to do his clow
n thing. The cops finally pushed people back out. L
ater, after beingset back by the events, C
harest gave his speech with an introduction now
making
its rounds in the media; "T
o all those who w
ere knocking on our door this morning,
we have jobs to offer the furthest north possible." T
he veil of political hypocrisy isthinning, not because of the already obvious joke that is dem
ocracy, but because we
can now see clearly w
hat the "North" represents in the m
ind of the spokesperson ofthe rapacious; a place far aw
ay, which they feel disconnected from
, that they don'tgive a shit about w
ho live there or whatever goes on there as long as their bank
accounts keep growing. W
hy not construct gulags while w
ere at it.
Meanw
hile another demo called by m
any groups on anti-colonial, anti-capitalist,environm
entalist and eco-anarchist basis gathered a few hundred people and left
square Phillips stopping at various places implicated in the pillage of the north,
like the Hydro-Q
uebec offices where Innu w
omen w
ere also gathered to recall thecolonialist assault by the S
tate and its institutions against their comm
unities. Many
texts were distributed.
When new
s came th
at shit had started at the Palais des congres, part of the thedem
o broke off to bring reinforcements. O
ver there, as people were gathered in front
of one of the entries, a youth who w
as close to the doors got shot with gas at point-
blank and shortly after this people attacked the doors throwing paint bom
bs andbusting its w
indows. A
riot squad came to disperse the crow
d and the street battlesstarted. F
or the rest of the day mobile groups attacked in w
aves and stirred shitaround the Palais des congres and financial district of M
ontreal, raising barricadesw
ith anything around, pelting the cops with rocks, m
aking them back up m
anytim
es, the cops shooting rubber bullets and constantly throwing their new
flashbanggrenades. T
he official assessment from
the cops is 17 arrests and six injured, fourof those being cops, but w
e strongly suspect the number of people injured to be
much higher being the level of arm
ament and brutal force used by the pigs from
thebeginning of the day. T
he Fair w
as finally canceled in the afternoon but no one was
24 allow
ed to enter already from noon on. T
he disruption was a success.
There w
as graffiti, attacks on C
CTV
cameras, a dozen cop cars and m
edia, andm
any places had their window
s busted, notably the Montreal W
orld Trade C
enterw
hich was attacked on three sides, banks and som
e luxury hotels. As w
indows w
ereshattered the crow
d applauded and sometim
es cheered Test pas des pacifistes qui
vont changer I'histoire! On pitche des paves pis on briile des chars!" [Its not pacifists
who w
ill change history! We throw
pavement and w
e burn cars! - translated lyricsfrom
a song by local band Mise en D
emeure]. T
he fighting spirit was clear.
The experience of crow
ds unleashing uncontrollably in the streets in front of sucha brutal enem
y as the State, C
apital and their mercenaries, that m
oment w
here we
take back our lives, where w
e free ourselves from m
orality, fear and the identitiesim
posed on us, cant be stopped around a table of negotiations, isn't the start of norw
ill die with a m
ovement: It is to b
e alive, free and
wild
!
It has been almost 40 years since the slogan N
o Future becam
e the standard bearer of ageneration, now
its of the whole planet. The w
orld they impose on us is decaying, it w
asn'tm
ade to last, and while they are accum
ulating whats left, during this last big liquidation
sale, their last big pillage, while they are pushing and fucking us up against the w
all, asthey w
ant us paralyzed in the trauma of this ongoing generalized rape, even after centuries
of denaturation imposed through force around the globe: W
e still know how
to bite
back!
