Global warming, a recent warming of the Earth, is believe to be the result of

increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Because of it the

planet is heating up, the climate is changing, sea levels are rising, forests aredrying, glaciers are melting and wildlife is fighting to survive. Lets learn about

global warming and what is causing it!

Greenhouse effect:

The greenhouse effect is the rise in temperature that theEarth experiences because certain

gases in atmosphere (water vapor, carbondioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example)

trap energy from the sun. It iscalled greenhouse effect because the sun warms the Earth in the

same way asit warms the plants inside a greenhouse. Without these gases, heat wouldescape

back into space and Earths average temperature would be about 60 F colder. Because of howthey warm our world, these gases are referred to asgreenhouse gases. The greenhouse effect is

important. Without the greenhouseeffect, the Earth would not be warm enough for humans to

live. But if thegreenhouse effect becomes stronger, it could make The Earth warmer thanusual.

Even a little extra warming may cause problems for humans, plants, andanimals.

Global warming

Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earthstemperature, which in turn causes

changes in climate. A warmer Earth may leadto changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level,

and a wide range of impactson plants, wildlife, and humans. When scientists talk about theissue of climatechange, their concern is about global warming caused by human activities.
