AMUN – Americas Model of United Nations

A décima quarta edição do AMUN conta com um tema que envolve diretamente a noção de

Segurança Humana desenvolvido pela ONU, o tema é: Nurturing Human Security, Building a

People-Centered World. Essa edição vai contar com seis comitês: Conselho de Segurança das

Nações Unidas; Corte Européia de Direitos Humanos Histórica; Conferência Americana sobre os 60

anos da Convenção relativa ao Estatuto do Refugiado; Comissão de Prevenção de Crimes e Justiça

Penal; Conselho de Direitos Humanos; e Organização Mundial do Comércio. A temática da

reflexão que a décima quarta edição do AMUN está propondo aos seus participantes teve por

objetivo estimular a percepção para o fato de que muitos dos assuntos presentes no cotidiano são

relevantes para as relações internacionais.

Os modelos de simulação universitários são projetos acadêmicos nos quais os estudantes são

estimulados a conhecer e refletir sobre as grandes questões da agenda internacional olhando-as sob

a perspectiva das esferas decisórias onde idéias, percepções e interesses são discutidos e

negociados. Ao longo dos anos o AMUN tem investido sistematicamente no aprimoramento do

exercício de simulação procurando propiciar um ambiente no qual os participantes assumam o papel

de representantes de suas nações tal qual ocorre no mundo real do sistema Nações Unidas. Com

esse propósito, o AMUN tem buscado a excelência em todas suas funções e tem tido a sorte de

reunir, de um lado, boas equipes na sua organização e, de outro, estudantes capazes e delegações

The theme of the AMUN’s 14th edition is : Nurturing Human Security, Building a People-Centered

World. The topic was drawn from the concept of Human Security currently developed by the UN

itself. The AMUN/2011 edition will have six committees: the United Nations Security Council, the

Historical European Court of Human Rights, the American Conference on the 60th years of the

Convention on the Refugee Statute, the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the

Human Rights Council, and the World Trade Organization. The theme proposed by AMUN/2011 is

aiming at stimulating the perception of the participants regarding the various forms of relationship

between the many issues of the everyday life and the international reality.

UN modeling are projects made to provide a different kind of academic and professional experience

to students of International Relations and related areas. In these models the participants have the

chance of comprehending some of the items of the international agenda under the perspective of the

decision making process of multilateral bodies. AMUN is well known for its tradition and for its

stake upon providing an opportunity to the participants to behave as if they were truly

representatives and diplomats of the country they represent. For the sake of that, AMUN has always

put effort in order to achieve high standards, and has been quite lucky to have both good

administrative staffs and high level students and delegations coming from several universities even
