Dear Friends, The gospel of the weeds and the wheat is fascinating: Let them grow together until harvest; Then at harvest time, I will say to the harvesters, “First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.” The parable today reveals a truth: The truth is tolerance. A primary characteristic of a disciple of Christ is the willingness to live side by side with people who come into our lives. We have little or no choice of these persons. Tolerance is: » Forbearance, which means to show mercy like our
Lord. » Long-suffering, to endure without escaping. This
means fidelity to a situation chosen by God with discernment, as long as the situation is not destructive.
» Patience, is the ability to listen and to love those around us. It puts us in a position of showing value to those who surround us.
» Sufferance, which is a share in the cross of Jesus. Jesus in this parable told us just as the weeds were not removed from the wheat, those he has chosen will grow alongside us. Further, the question is: Are we the wheat or the weeds!? During this month please adhere to the mitigating practices that keep all of us safe. The practices are showing forth the mercy and love of Christ. Please try to stay home when you can to avoid the coronavirus. We will get through all of this with the power of the Holy Spirit. My prayers always for all of you,
Holy Land Carvings Due to the bad situation and the interruption of the tourist trade, hundreds of families of the Holy Land are in danger of having to leave their homes in search of work. Our mission is to bring and sell the Olive Wood Carvings to Catholic Churches
in the United States to help the Christian families remain in their homes and support their families. These Christians who make their livelihood through the selling of their hand carved Olive Wood religious items are depending on us to bring these beautiful carving, such as, Nativity Scenes, Crucifixes, picture of the Last Supper, and several other religious items to you.
Please look over these carving that are
available to you the weekend of July 25th &26th and help support this self-help project that enables to keep the Christians present in the Holy Land. Your help and understanding in this crucial matter is greatly appreciated. We are excepting cash, checks and credit cards. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Abufarha at (810) 625-8536.

*Gathering Antiphon (Psalm 54: 6)
See, I have God for my help. The Lord sustains my soul.
I will sacrifice to you with willing heart, and praise your name, O Lord, for it is good: for you have rescued me from all my distress
and my eyes have seen the downfall of my foes.
O God, save me by your name; by your power, uphold my cause.
O God, hear my prayer; listen to the words of my mouth.

*Glory To God RECITED by ALL
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
The Liturgy of The Word
*1st Reading: Wisdom 12: 13, 16-19
There is no god besides you who have the care of all, that you need show you have not unjustly condemned. For your might is the source of justice; your mastery over all things makes you lenient to all. For you show your might when the perfection of your power is disbelieved; and in those who know you, you rebuke temerity. But though you are master of might, you judge with clemency, and with much lenience you govern us; for power, whenever you will, attends you. And you taught your people, by these deeds, that those who are just must be kind; and you gave your children good ground for hope that you would permit repentance for their sins.
The word of the Lord. THANKS BE TO GOD.
*Psalm: Psalm 86: 5-6, 9-10, 15-16
You are good and forgiving, O Lord, full of love to all who call.
O LORD, you are good and forgiving, full of love to all who call.
Give heed, O LORD, to my prayer and attend to the sound of my voice.
All the nations shall come to adore you and glorify your name, O LORD,
for you are great and do marvelous deeds; you who alone are God.
You, God of mercy and compassion, slow to anger, O LORD,
abounding in love and truth, turn and take pity on me.
You are good and forgiving, O Lord, full of love to all who call.
*2nd Reading: Romans 8: 26-27
Brothers and sisters: The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because he intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will.
The word of the Lord. THANKS BE TO GOD.
*Gospel: Matthew 13: 24-43 OR 13: 24-30
Jesus proposed another parable to the crowds, saying: “The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well. The slaves of the householder came to him and said, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?’ He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ His slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, “First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.”’” [He proposed another parable to them. “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a field. It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the ‘birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.’” He spoke to them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened.” All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables. He spoke to them only in parables, to fulfill what had been said through the prophet: I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what has lain hidden from the foundation of the world. Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.” He said in reply, “He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.”]
The Gospel of the Lord. PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Are we ever going to sing at Mass again? Well, that’s a very good question. This COVID-19 Coronavirus situation has really affected the way we celebrate Mass. Based on the scientific and medical information our Diocese has received, we have been asked to comply with their recommendation of discouraging public singing until further notice, even with social distancing and wearing masks. Basically, singing can increase the chances of contracting the virus because more microscopic respiratory droplets are emitted which gives everyone a better chance of inhaling the virus. So back to the question of if we are ever going to sing again at Mass – the answer depends on how long this virus will last and how well people comply with the directives given to us by our Governor. For now, here at OLG, the Cantor is singing the basic minimum we have been instructed to do, such as the Gathering and Communion Antiphons (we are also adding the “Alleluia” before the Gospel.) Even though the assembly is discouraged from singing at this time, we ask that you sing from within your heart the words that are sung by the Cantor. One day, and hopefully soon, this will be over and we can get back to normal with our regular celebration of Mass, as well as all the other aspects of our lives. Let us continue our prayers for those who suffer from this virus, for each other, for our Church, and for our Country. May we also pray for an end to this COVID-19 Coronavirus so we can once again together “Sing a new song unto the Lord!”

We are still looking for volunteers to help teach our PSR classes. Looking for a 3rd grade helper, 6th grade catechist, and 6th grade helper on Monday evenings from 6:30-7:45pm.
