Laboratório de Metalurgia Física (LaMeF)
1) Histórico do grupo
O grupo de Metalurgia Física atua no projeto de novas ligas metálicas e no
estudo da correlação entre os processos metalúrgicos de fabricação, as
transformações de fase e a formação da microestrutura, das tensões residuais
e da textura cristalográfica nos materiais metálicos com aplicações estruturais.
Atualmente, o grupo desenvolve novas ligas leves e de alto desempenho à
base de magnésio com adição de terras raras para aplicações aeronáuticas e
estuda o seu processamento através da soldagem por fricção e mistura
mecânica (SFMM). Outro trabalho recente compreende a pesquisa de aços
austeníticos inovadores à base de Mn e sem adição de Ni com efeitos TWIP e
TRIP para a indústria automotiva, bem como o estudo da sua soldabilidade por
tecnologias convencionais a arco e também pelo processo SFMM. Estes aços
combinam, de maneira única, elevada resistência mecânica e grande
ductilidade com um reduzido custo de processamento. Em parceria com
empresas, têm sido pesquisados ainda novos revestimentos cerâmicos anti-
desgaste produzidos por deposição física a vapor (PVD), bem como o
cladeamento por explosão de ligas de Ni e aços inoxidáveis sobre aços
estruturais de baixa liga.
