The Valle del Jerte Mountain Biking Centre consists
of six routes designed for users with a mountain or all
terrain bike, which comprise 99 miles of marked trails
that enable cyclists to get to know some of the most
picturesque parts of Valle del Jerte. We come close to all
the towns in the valley and can also use the routes of the
Valle del Jerte Mountain Biking Centre to move between
different towns.
The Valle del Jerte Mountain Biking Centre is approved
by the International Mountain Bicycling Association,
therefore, it fulfills the minimum requirements in terms
of marking and signposting its routes.
There are sections of the routes in which two numbers
appear on each sign. This means that we are on a section
shared by two routes and must follow the signs showing
our route number. We can also use these sections to
combine different routes as we wish.

I nfo
The identifying signs of the Mountain Biking Centre’s routes are a white square measuring 4.7 x 4.7 in with an equilateral triangle and two red circumferences on the inside. The direction of the trail is defined by the vertex of the triangle opposite the two circumferences. The signs are vinyl and painted.
The route number is printed in an identifying colour. These colours indicate the difficulty of the itinerary: BLACK: Very difficult RED: DifficultBLUE: Medium GREEN: Easy

<Check your bicycle before each route and always take repair materials. <Adapt the route to your physical abilities. Do not underestimate the difficulty of a mountain biking route. Study the route and pace your efforts so you can finish the route. Bear in mind that you will be passing through places where it is very complicated to be rescued or to abandon the route. Suitable clothing (cycling shorts, jersey, windbreaker…) will help you enjoy the outing. <Always bring a small backpack with the material you need, as well as food, water, warm clothing, mobile phone and first aid kit.<Always wear a helmet. You never know where you can fall and accidents can happen in the place you least expect. Be careful on the descents and technical zones. There are other elements at risk aside from your safety (other trail users, erosion, cattle…). <Close all gates and fences. There are there for a reason. Cattle can escape and it can be really difficult to round up cows. <The weather in the mountains is very changeable. On some of this centre’s routes you will ascend to high mountain zones. Bear this in mind and dress accordingly. In winter you can find snow in the highest parts, and in spring the zones near the rivers can be flooded and even impassable. In summer, avoid the hottest time of the day and drink plenty of water. In autumn, stones or holes can be hidden by leaves, which can make you fall. <Signposts can fall down, be removed, erased, stolen… Always use a map, compass or GPS to avoid getting lost.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Starting point: At Tornavacas, Fuente Santa Ana, at Cordel
del Valle, next to Plaza Nueva.
This might be the most accessible route, but not necessary
an easy one. It tours the valley in a downhill direction from
its high part to the lowest spot parallel to the river Jerte.
Linear route that serves as an axis connecting point with
other routes of the centre.
From Fuente de Santa Ana, we follow El Cordel del Valle in
the direction of Plasencia. A concrete track, this route is the
GR-10 that we must follow at all times, passing alongside
the locality of Jerte. From here and as far as the entrance
to the Garganta de los Infiernos National Reserve (km. 9.9)
routes 1 and 3 join up. We continue to the right, crossing the
river and continuing along the track as far as Cabezuela del
Centro BTTValle del Jerte
Valle, where we leave the GR-10 and continue along the GR-110. On the right hand side of the river and next to it, we arriveat Navaconcejo (km. 16) by crossing the river again. After passing through Navaconcejo, we return to the right hand side of the river and, still parallel to it, through zones of fertile plains, arrive at the Rebollar CV-133 motorway (we made a deviation from the GR110) after crossing the river. On its left, we return to the track and, parallel to the N110, continue our descent through the valley. On arriving at the access to the bathing zone, we continue along this paved road to skirt around the facility and return to the GR-110 after a tough steep slope. We reach a paved farming track that we follow for around 3 miles as far as a deviation along a trail. To our left, we start descending as far as El Torno bridge, where our route next to the river Jerte ends.

Starting point: At Tornavacas we go to Plaza Nueva, next to which is Fuente de Santa Ana at Cordel del Valle. This is one of Valle del Jerte Mountain Biking Centre’s most beautiful routes, with long ascents and some impressive views made more interesting by a technical descent section in its final part. The start of the route coincides with Route 1 for half a mile as far as the PR CC-1 (Carlos V Route). Here we continue along the concrete track on the left, start ascending along some concrete ramps after crossing San Martin ravine. Then we continue to the right and continue ascending along concrete trails as far as the entrance to the Natural Reserve (always remember to close the gate).
Once at the reserve, we have in front of us a dirt track around 6 miles long that ascends continuously through spectacular

landscapes. When we arrive
at the top, we find a crossroads
and continue along the right until
we get to the top of the hill. We start
a vertiginous descent along a forest track as far as El Collado
de Las Losas (km 18.9), where we deviate along a trail that
leads back to Tornavacas (ATTENTION! Technical Descent)
following the PR CC-1.
On the descent, which coincides in its first miles with the
R-3, we cross a beautiful chestnut forest that, going downhill,
takes us to Tornavacas. On arriving at El Cordel del Valle, we
go up towards the locality in the opposite direction to Route 1
as far as the starting point of the route.
Starting point: The route starts next to Nogalón park in Jerte and to get to here we have to follow the road that takes us to the river from the inn. To begin with we cross the river Jerte along the Las Vegas road (coincides with the R-1) and arrive at the Garganta de los Infiernos Natural Reserve Interpretive Centre (km. 2.8), ascend along the forest track as far as El Collado de las Losas (km 7.5). Half way up, we have the option of deviating after around 1.2 miles to visit Los Pilones, to then return to the main track (return section).

(coincides with the R-2), a pretty t r a i l
amidst chestnut trees. At km 10, we leave Route 2 on the
right and continue the descent along the forest track (a
little broken) on the left to arrive at El Cordel del Valle
(Route 1) and return to Jerte.

Starting point: Right when you cross Cabezuela del Valle
bridge, right at the beginning of Las Juderías Route and the
GR-10 ascent to Honduras Port.
Next to the N110, we go in the direction of Cabezuela del Valle,
cross the bridge, take the street that leaves in front, cycle
leisurely until we reach the road that takes us to San Felipe
(km 0.4) and follow the forest track in the direction of the
Garganta de los Infiernos Natural Reserve along the north-
facing route.
After some tough ascents, we reach the access to the reserve
(km 4.1), pass the gate and start descending as far as the spot
known as Los Pilones. In this section we cross a beautiful oak
wood.
Centro BTTValle del Jerte
At Los Pilones (km 6) we need to
carry the bicycle for a section, but
the beauty of the landscape makes up
for it. We cross the bridge and go up the
track until we begin the descent, which takes
us to the Interpretive Centre (km 9.4).
From here we coincide with Route 1 and return to Cabezuela
del Valle, the starting point of our route.
This route has a deviation at km 2.5, which is a descent
to the old town, via which we arrive at El Cordel del Valle,
linking up with Route 4 on its return to Cabezuela del Valle,
which makes a route of around 3.4 miles. Ideal for doing as
a family.

Starting point: The route starts in Navaconcejo, next to the
children’s park on the banks of the river Jerte, next to the
bar zone.
In terms of distance, this might be the toughest route. The
route begins next to the park and from here ascends over the
town along the river passage. We reach the bridge, cross it
and continue ascending the river on its right side. We come
to Las Monjas bridge, start a long ascent of around 15 km on
a paved track to begin with, then continue along a dirt track.
Once up high (km 18.4), we start our descent along a concrete
track as far as a deviation on the right (km. 22.3) leading to the
high zone of the El Torno known as Las Vaquerizas. We keep
descending until we get to El Torno at km 28 of our route and
an ideal place for making a pit stop.

We continue descending through the town and just as we pass the park, take a
concrete track with a steep slope that takes us as far as the water
treatment facility and we keep descending through Boyal pasture.
Continuing along a track heading north-east we arrive at Rebollar motorway (km 35).From here, still heading north-east, we skirt around along comfortable tracks towards Navaconcejo. The return from El Torno is done in sections following Route 1 backwards through the zones of Vega del Jerte.

Starting point: Our route begins at Casas del Castañar along an access passage to estates. We pass the El Cabrero natural pool and ascend to El Rabanillo Port along the old motorway. Once we reach the end of the port (2,798 ft above sea level) we must descend for half a mile along the motorway to take a track on the left. This uphill track takes us to Piornal after 3.7 miles and a drop of 1,640 feet. We go round the town on the ring road in a westerly direction (left) and start descending towards Valle del Jerte along the CC-V-17.3 motorway, though at the first big hairpin bend on the left we leave the motorway along a track that leaves towards our right. Our efforts will be rewarded with a descent of over 1,640 feet of slope towards Valdastillas, passing over Los Molinos bridge on a paved road that crosses Bohonal ravine through a picturesque spot at the foot of a waterfall.

We keep descending along tracks until we get to the IRYDA agricultural motorway. We turn left on this motorway, circling it for 1.2 miles, crossing Bohonal ravine again at the point known as El Caozo waterfall. On arriving at the crossroads with the CC-V-17.3 motorway, we deviate to the right along a track that will become a trail and will zigzag towards the natural pool of Valdastillas. We continue our route and cross Valdastillas next to the church, a concrete track that goes up amid cherry tree fields and, after a flat section and descent, leads us to Cabrero and Casa del Castañar.
